Opening an adjacent market for an Ed-Tech start up
Driven by students, not data.
Alps Education creates analytical tools and provides educational training to help every student aspire to more.
The Challenge
Alps Education required a new suite of highly complex data analysis reports benchmarked against national datasets to open up an adjacent market, drive revenue and increase relevance in the market.
The Process
- A product brief outlining the value proposition, market opportunity, route to market, risks, and a discovery roadmap.
- In depth discovery using a real data prototype and insights from 10 schools and dozens of potential customers and stakeholders to validate the market fit.
- Delivery and testing lead, overseeing the development of a production ready product.
- Go to market, running focus groups to set pricing, creating marketing collateral, running conferences and preparing for the product launch.
- Post launch hypercare, ensuring that all systems ran as planned in the busy post-exam period and customers were delighted with their new data analysis reports.
The Outcome
The launch of the new data analysis was a big success.
On launch, the new analysis was immediately taken up by 25% of existing clients, beating our revenue target.
The uptake of the new analysis has increased year on year and now makes up 41% of company revenue, almost doubling the turnover of the company.
Importantly, the analysis running from 11 through to 18 increased the relevance of our market offer which also drove sales across all products.
Mary Ahern
CEO - Alps Education
I worked directly with Simon for several years at Alps and over recent years as a product coach.
Simon is an outstanding product leader. He is exceptionally knowledgeable on modern product, agile and experience design, he has a sharp commercial and business awareness and works hard to understand the specific context of my business to provide meaningful, actionable advice.
His insights have helped me to shape Alps into the successful business it is today.
I would highly recommend Simon as a product leader and coach.
Key takeaways
Even though not my most prestigious client, this is one of my personal favorite examples of 0-1 product development with a combination of product strategy and execution.
